Scott Goggle Lenses

Are chrome lenses or fire iridium better for sunlight?

I’m looking at getting new scott hustle Goggles or Oakley proven and I think the deciding factor will be the lens. The Scott Goggles come with the chrome lens and oakleys with fire iridium. I usually ride when the sun is setting so I want to get some that will help with the sun glare.

Having had both (I work for a Scott dealer and I collect and wear Oakley stuff), the coating on the outside of the googles doesn’t make a difference. It’s the base tint of the lens that makes a difference.

Glare is usually mitigated by polarization not the color of the tint. Glare is not the same as relfection so keep that in mind. If you’re riding into the sun at sunset, you’ll need a darker lens tint. Again, it has nothing to do with the shiny coating.

It’s kind of a moot point as well as both Oakley an Scott have interchangeable lenses and you can buy different tints for different conditions.

Oakley’s Fire Iridium is good for sunny conditions. It has a slight greenish tint that does a little bit of contrast enhancement. It would be good for the conditions you describe and during the day. The Scott lens, from what I remember, is a grey based lens ( I could be wrong though, i dont’ have a pair of these particular goggles here next to me) and would work fine as well.

I’d go with the Oakley just because i know the optics on the Oakley Goggles are far superior to the Scotts (test prove it). Oakley lenses are about as distortion free as you can get. With the Scotts, as the lens wraps, you’ll get things distorting. Personally, it gives me a headache.
